Tom Servo is a fictional character from the American science fiction comedy TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 ( MST3K ). Tom is one of the two smart and witty main characters, made by Joel Robinson to act as a companion and help prevent insanity when he is forced to watch low-quality movies (Tom and other bots are made from the opposite section that will allow Joel to really- really control the movie). At least during the Comedy Central era, he was somewhat more mature and cynical than his friend Crow T. Robot. Tom, more often than any other, signifies the need to get out of the theater to do the host segment.

Overview
Tom Servo is a red doll that has a gumball machine (Carousel Executive Snack Dispenser) for the head, a body consisting of "Money Beloved Barrel" toys, bank coins and blocks of toy cars, and a Halloween "Boo Bowl" skirt instead of a feet. His arm is a pair of small white ventriloquist puppets at the end of a spring that does not really work as a weapon, a point that is commented on occasionally throughout the series (however, on eleven incarnation seasons on Netflix his arm proved to be functional, usually in the theater). Some episodes show Tom with objects already in his hands, raising unanswered questions about how they got there. The shoulder is made of front of Eveready's floating lantern. Because the servo head is transparent, the chromakeyed image is projected through it, and thus the second doll is built for use in the theater segment, entirely painted black spray. This black servo also appears in the host segment in episode # 609, The Skydivers . Tom moves in the air. In season one to ten he can not float higher than the ground, but in the season of eleven (and briefly in the film version) he is able to float in height and agility. In episode # 413 Manhunt in Space it was revealed that Servo suffered from red-green blindness.
Servo appearances have changed over time. In the pilot for the MST3K , the robot that will be Servo is named "Beeper," which speaks only in beeps that can only be understood by Crow (similar to R2-D2 and C-3PO from Wars ). He is a silver-shaped silver robot that is vaguely shaped like the ultimate servo, with a funnel-shaped shoulder, a silver rubber tube sleeve, a plastic flowerpot for a hoverskirt, and a small fish bowl for the head. He renamed 'Servo' after a vending machine called Servotron. The character was not in K01: Invaders from the Deep , but reappeared for the rest of the KTMA series as a Servo doll who is now familiar with the stupid engine head at K02: Vengeance from Mysterons of Mars .
In Season 1 on Comedy Channel, he was given a red color, a longer black tube sleeve, a thin white shoulder, a different hoverskirt, and a Carlier Snack Dispenser digging machine head with a white beak. Around episode 105: The Corpse Vanishes , the servo head is replaced with a slightly modified version of its "Carousel" head. The "neck" is slightly wider and the beak (now silver at this point) appears smaller. This Servo head version will be used for the rest of Season 1. For Season 2, the black tube used for his arm is replaced by a pair of small silver springs and the more familiar head design of the Carousel Dispenser (KTMA/pre episode 105) returns with a silver beak. This physical form is almost the same throughout the rest of the series, except for brief flirtation (during episode # 205: Rocket Attack USA and # 206: Ring of Terror) with a sleek goyall cylinder head to try to reduce the screen area of ââthe obfuscated Servo Head. It was introduced as Joel's "haircut" to Servo, but was soon abandoned. In mid-season 3, additional caps from other South Korean Dispensers were added just below the "bubble" that made Tom's head appear slightly taller and slimmer. Briefly at the beginning of season 4, the white hand Servo was changed to beige before it became white after just a few episodes. During the host segment in the Sci-Fi era, he briefly acquired the body of "beautiful butterflies."
Servo's voice and personality also changed during the early years of the show. While Josh Weinstein operated the Servo during the KTMA season, Servo initially spoke in a rotten voice, the Bullwinkle type in the K02 episode (the earliest seen from a regular Servo doll), then a rather slow pitched sound from K03-K05, and rather unmoved during the host segment but oddly very active in the theater. In episode K06, Weinstein switched to a lower voice that Servo repeatedly declared as "VOICE MIGHTY!" The new one! When Weinstein left at the end of Season 1, Kevin Murphy took over the servo operation and tried to match the voice and personality of Servo Weinstein, but gradually developed a rather new sound and servo character (though Murphy had a deep voice in him). This is described as tampering with Joel. During the Murphy period, Servo took many chances to present his excellent singing. He also has an extensive collection of underwear (as seen at Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie), as well as a large number of self-duplicates he made in episode # 420: The Human Duplicator (also seen in episode # 612: Starfighters , episode # 910: Devil's Touch , episode # 913: Quest of the Delta Knights , episode # 1003: Merlin's Mystical Wonders store, episode # 1004: War of the Future , and episode # 1013: Diabolic ). Duplicate Servo Wanita is featured in The Touch of Satan and Quest of Delta Knights.
Every time a member of a player is required to wear a drag for sketching, the Servo usually performs a homage. This is because the dichotomy of women's clothing contrasts strongly with Murphy's powerful baritone and because, in Murphy's words, "Servo looks better in dress than Crow." Also, the Servo is the only robot (other than Cambot in season 5-10) whose entire body can be seen on the show, as Crow's feet are behind the desk and Gypsy's body is several meters long.
Servos usually have degrading personalities and can sometimes make literary and technical references that are above their peers' heads. He often tries to appear physically imposing on others, once acquiring "elevators" for his floating skirt to increase his size (accused by Mike of suffering from "short man disease") and on other occasions showing off the small arms he gained while floating through space. Almost always, however, any attempt at dealing with danger or displaying his intellectual skills causes him to be frustrated that he ends up crying, often requiring entertainment from Joel or Mike. He has also shown a tendency to take jokes and plays from above, to be brought back to earth by others.
In addition, he is easily confused by sarcastic remarks made from Crow, as he mocks his insanity with Tibby's turtle boy in the episode of 'Gamera'.
He does have good understanding and intellect irrespective of his sensitivities and frustrations, and has revealed in the episode 'The Gunslinger' that he can teleport at will, though he only shows this on other rare occasions.
In Season 11, Tom seems to have received many improvements. Includes the ability to fly or hover as seen many times. Also he seems to have worked his hands and arms now because he's proven to be able to use a baseball bat. The original servo (probably) was apparently destroyed in Episode 1101 Reptilicus , but the identical clone to the original Servo in all things lags behind, taking its place.
