Dinotopia is a 2002-2003 American television series based on a picture book series of the same name by James Gurney, in which three people from Scott's family had an accident flying airplanes and found themselves in an uncharted remote island where people live in peace with dinosaurs.
The Scotts had settled in Waterfall City, the capital of Dinotopia, which was later influenced by the arrival of a group called Outsiders.

Production
The series was produced as a sequel to the Dinotopia miniseries broadcast in early 2002, and thirteen new episodes were filmed. None of the mini-series actors return to their roles. The shooting took place for three months near Budapest, Hungary. Georgina Rylance plays Marion Waldo, and her friend Lisa Zane Le Sage, the leader of the Outsiders. Michael Brandon, Jonathan Hyde, and Erik von Detten also starred in the series.
A group of people known as Outsiders live outside the law of Dinotopia and pose additional dangers apart from the Saurian antagonists shown, such as Pteranodon , Tyrannosaurus , and Postosuchus
ABC was first planned to launch the series in September 2002, but in the event waited until Thanksgiving. The network was disillusioned by 5.7 million viewers for Episode 1, but stated that it has become "a whole strange watching night" and continues to broadcast the show. However, in December the number of impressions did not increase enough to meet ABC's network, and the series was canceled, with the result that only six out of thirteen episodes aired on ABC, although thirteen were broadcast in Europe in 2003.
Artisan Entertainment released the entire series on DVD Region 1 on January 20, 2004. This release was later discontinued and out of print, but on March 15, 2016, Mill Creek Entertainment re-released the 1st Region DVD series and also in Region 2 DVD in Europe.
