There are two types of gel, hard gel and soft gel.
The hard gel gets its name because, once healed, it is quite difficult to be made into a nail extension. Nail extensions are artificial nails made with nail products to extend the nails across the nail tips naturally.
Soft gel refers to a gel product that is too soft to make a nail extension. These include thick gel and gel gel intended for gel-overlay services. Polishing gels are used for increasingly popular polish gel manicures. The manicure is soft for natural nails and nail polish remained intact on the nail for at least a few weeks with high luster and not cracked, chipped or cracked.
Products used to make nail extensions using gel or gel nails are gels, should not be confused with acrylic nails, made using liquid monomers and polymer powders. All gel services are performed using some form of gel, which is usually available in gel pots or polish gel bottles. Gel also comes in a variety of colors. All forms of gel require preservation or hardening under UV (ultraviolet) light, which can be either a conventional bulb or LED lamp.
UV curing refers to the chemical processes that occur when the photoinitiators in the gel itself are exposed to UV or blue light. The energy of light causes certain bonds in the initiator molecules to break apart, forming free radicals. The radicals begin to attack the double bond in the molecule of the gel component, initiating a polymerization reaction that eventually includes all the gel molecules. The gel usually contains a mixture of acrylic monomers and oligomers, which combine to form long and interlocking chains during polymerization, a process known as cross-linking. This long and bonded chain makes the gel hard and chemical resistant. Normally, after the nail extension and/or gel manicure is complete, there is a remaining layer, called the "inhibiting layer", which is removed by wiping with a cloth-free cloth soaked in high concentrate alcohol.
This process usually ends with cuticle oil applications on all fingers, to bring back the food to the cuticle after a hard alcohol application.

Acrylic nails
Acrylic nails are a more common form of artificial nails and can also be referred to as "liquid and powder nails". They have been around for decades while gel nail products are still a very new addition to the nail industry that was first introduced in the 1980s. The most popular acrylic nail service is pink and white which refers to the use of pink acrylic and white acrylic powder to create a durable French manicure look. Just like gel nails, acrylic nail extensions can be made using shapes to create nails or sculpted tips. The form is a special sticker placed at the end of each finger, under the fingernail, and secured in place so that the wet acrylic can be carved into a nail extension on the tip of the nail. Thus, every nail extension is carved and why this procedure is referred to as "sculptures" or "sculptured sculptures." The tip is just a nail-mass-produced plastic tip that holds the edge of the nail using a resin nail. Each tip is cut and put into shape before applying wet acrylic and nail extension is made.
Fiberglass and silk
Fiberglass and silk wrapping is an overlay service. This means that a product is placed on top or "overlaid" to existing natural nails. In this scenario, the manicurist will cut the pieces of fiberglass or silk and then attach to the nail with a kind of resin. This service is often used in cases of broken nails or to strengthen natural nails.

- Gel manicure paint can last up to 3 weeks without chipping, peeling or cracking
- Leave a glossy result
- Nail gel does not produce odor
- Very fast preservation time when using L.E.D. light. It can be as low as 5-10 seconds with a 36 watt LED lamp. More powerful lights that emerge at any time with 60 watts available at time of writing.
- Nail polish brushes mean dry nails immediately after completing the service so no need to worry about fade or damage a manicure
