The Complete Bible Concordance , commonly known as Strong Coincidence , is a Biblical conjunction, the index of every word in the King James Version (KJV), which was built under the direction of James Strong. Strong first published his book Concordance in 1890, while professor of theoretical theology at Drew Theological Seminary.

The purpose of Strong Concordance is not to provide content or comments about the Bible, but to provide an index to the Bible. This allows readers to find the words in which they appear in the Bible. This index allows a Bible student to rediscover a phrase or part previously studied. It also allows the reader to directly compare how the same word can be used elsewhere in the Bible. In this way, Strong provides independent checks on translations, and offers an opportunity for greater and more technically accurate text comprehension.

Strong Numbers

Each original language word is assigned an entry number in the dictionary of the original language words listed behind the concordance. It has been known as "Strong's number". The main concordance lists every word that appears in the KJV Bible in alphabetical order with each verse in which it appears listed in the order of its appearance in the Bible, with the text of the surrounding text (including the word in italics). Appears to the right of the scripture references is the Strong number. This allows concordance users to look up the original language meaning in the related dictionary in the back, thus showing how the original language was translated into the English word in the KJV Bible.

Strong Concordance includes:

  • The Hebrew root word 8674 is used in the Old Testament. (Example: Hebrew # 582 in Strong Concordance)
  • 5624 Greek words used in the New Testament. (Example: Greek word # 3056 in Strong's)

The new edition of Strong's can exclude the comparative part (1611 KJV to 1614) and an asterisk that denotes the differential definition of the same Hebrew or Greek word; because it is possible for denominational considerations, the definition can also be changed..

Although the Greek words in Strong Concordance are numbered 1-5624, the numbers 2717 and 3203-3302 are not specified due to "change in enumeration in progress". Not every different word is numbered, but only basic words. As an example, ????????? given the same number as ??????? - both listed as Greek # 25 in Strong's ??????.

Other authors have used Strong numbers in other concordance Bible translations, such as New International Version and American Standard Version .

Because of Strong numbers, it is possible to translate concordances from one language to another. Thus, the Russian concordance of 30,000 words of the Russian Thompson Study Bible ("?????????????????????", La Buona Novella Inc., 2010, edition made by the public Christian "The Bible for everyone", St.Petersburg, Russia) is a translation of the English concordance of the Thompson Chain-Reference Bible ( The New Thompson Study Bible, La Buona Novella Inc. & Amp; BBKirkbride Bible Company, Inc., 2006). In the process of drafting the Russian concordance, the Hebrew/Greek word corresponding to the English word concordance was found, and then Russian equivalent in the Russian Bible Synod translation was added to the Russian concordance text produced.

The new edition of Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible remains in print in 2016.
