Lorraine Bowen (born October 31, 1961 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire) is a British singer, songwriter, comedian and musician. Bowen has released seven studio and compilation albums, and several singles as solo artists and contributing artists.

He studied music at the University of Surrey, and then sang around London. He was a member of two bands in the 1980s: See You in Vegas and The Dinner Ladies , and performed regularly with Billy Bragg on stage and recorded. He has also made numerous appearances on BBC Radio 4 including the show John Shuttleworth Shuttleworth Radio and sketches of all 1999 Heated Rollers ladies, starring Lynda Bellingham, Gwyneth Strong and Joanna Monro. He also writes for BBC Radio 4's Loose Ends .
1990-present: Solo Career
In 1990, Billy Bragg encouraged Bowen to start a solo career. He started performing solo performances under the name The Lorraine Bowen Experience ; his acting features three songs, a Casio keyboard and an ironing board. This has led to performances throughout the world, including festivals in Winnipeg, Toronto, San Francisco, and in the UK, Glastonbury, Edinburgh, Glasgay, Bestival, The Big Chill and The Secret Garden, and many shows in Italy and Spain. The songs are seen as "weird", contain humor and often with kitsch flavor. Themes often include food, movie stars (one of his most popular songs is about Julie Christie), cell phones, fish fingers, and launderettes. Bowen is known for its exciting chorus in songs and encourages audience participation.
2005-2009: Vital Organs
Vital Organs is the name of Bowen's first solo music comedy tour that celebrates the collection of Casio's portable electronic organ, omnichord, and other eccentric portable organs. First performed at Drill Hall in London, the show was held extensively between 2005 and 2009.
2011-2014: Lorraine Bowen meets Barbara Moore
In 2011, Bowen discovered that the composer Barbara Moore was still alive and living in Bognor Regis, while recording the episode of Stereo 2011-2015: Lorraine Bowen Comfort Zone and Fiesta Polyester Lorraine Bowen!
The Lorraine Bowen Comfort Zone show is a 'durational project' of three connected concerts that explore hibernation in conjunction with Brighton's Pink Fringe and Nightingale Theater. Supported by the Arts Council of Great Britain, the event runs through the winter of 2011 and 2012, utilizing a range of experiences provided by Charlotte Glasson, Mick Jackson, and others.
Fiesta Events Fiesta Lorraine Bowen celebrates polyester and has 4 models, a scientist and a wardrobe mistress. Bowen acts as a hostess, modeling and singing under the catwalk. Bowen has been a collector of vintage polyester clothing since visiting a jumbled sale as a girl and the collection has been featured on BBC1 The One Show and BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour.
Fiesta Polyester! tour during 2015, has been performed at Glasgay, The Vintage Festival South Bank, Brighton Fringe, Colchester Art Center and Royal Vauxhall Tavern among others.
2015: British Talent Debut
Bowen also entered Britain's Got Talent in May 2015 and was sent to the semi-final live by gold buzzer David Walliams after he sang his own song "The Crumble Song", which about his love for the crushed apple. On May 25, Bowen was elected from Britain's Got Talent by the public in the first semifinal after singing a song about space. He is fourth in the vote, which is not enough to go into the final.

Teaching career
During his early career, Bowen also worked as a part-time music teacher in schools throughout Hackney. Now based in Brighton, Bowen runs a singing workshop at Brighton Dome and Bexhill's De La Warr Pavilion.

Movies
Bowen provided the soundtrack for No Campaign, No Deposit, No Return by Dallas Campbell. The original song "Julie Christie" appeared in an independent Canadian film, the soundtrack of Better Than Chocolate. Bowen also provides vocals about "There Must Be An Angel" in the movie Sorrentino 2013, The Great Beauty.
Working with other artists
Lorraine was discovered by Billy Bragg in the Hackney Empire performing with The Dinner Ladies . After a successful audition to fill Tutu's maternity leave, Bowen found himself performing his first show with Bragg at the Liverpool Opera House as part of the Workers Playtime Tour . He then toured East Germany shortly before reunification, performing in army camps and stadiums. Bowen made appearances in two episodes of Shuttleworth Radio with John Shuttleworth (S01, E02 and S02, E03).
