Higbee's is a department store founded in 1860 in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1987, Higbee was sold to a partnership with Dillard department store and Youngstown-based developer Edward J. DeBartolo. Histori

Higbee's was founded by Edwin Converse Higbee and John G. Hower on September 10, 1860 as Higbee & amp; Hower Dry Goods. The first day of business earns $ 100 in sales. It was reorganized as The Higbee Co. in 1902 following the death of Mr. Hower and moved from the original Public Field location to the new five-storey Playhouse Square Center store, just across from its weight rival Halle Brothers Co. In 1929 it was acquired by the brothers of Van Sweringen, who moved the shop to their new $ 179 million Terminal Tower complex on the Public Ground, in part in response to requests from women who wanted to occupy homes in their new suburbs at Shaker Heights and boarding a new Vans. train to town for quality shopping. The store went bankrupt in 1935 when the Van Sweringen empire collapsed in the Great Depression, but thanks to store executives Charles P. Bradley and John Murphy, the company was rearranged and developed under their years of guidance.

In the 1960s and 1970s there were additional stores in the suburbs and expansions to Akron and Canton, all under the supervision of president Herbert Strawbridge, who also saw the value of giving a new life to The Flats district in Downtown Cleveland.

In 1984, Industrial Equity Ltd., a subsidiary of Brierly Investments Ltd, New Zealand, acquired Higbee's, sold it three years later to a joint venture of Dillard and Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. who plans to combine Higbee with the acquisition demanded from Horne. The deal was canceled unexpectedly, resulting in several years of litigation. In 1992, Dillard bought DeBartolo shares and restored Higbee's and five Northern Ohio Horne stores by name. During the 1990s, some inner ring shops were closed while new sites were far open or expanded.

The 192 foot tall, 11 public utility store Public Square is famous for the Silver Grille restaurant on the tenth floor. It closed in January 2002. The Main Floors, second and third floors were restored in 2007 to place the new office of the Convention & amp; The Greater Cleveland Visitor Bureau and the Greater Cleveland Partnership, while the Silver Grille was restored for a special occasion.

The building was again renovated in 2011 and opened on 14 May 2012 as Horseshoe Casino Cleveland . The building was once again renamed Jack Cleveland Casino and reopened on May 11, 2016 after Rock Gaming LLC took over the management of the casino downtown.
