The love beads is one of the traditional hippies accessories. They consist of one or more long strands of beads, often hand-made, worn around the neck by both sexes. The tendency of manic love may have evolved from the hippie appeal to non-Western cultures, such as Indian and Native Americans, who used similar beads in general.

- In the episode "Bendin 'in the Wind" (2001) from the animated series Futurama , Fry, Leela, Amy and Dr. Zoidberg followed Beck's music tour on the Volkswagen microbus and soon ran out of money during their cross-country trip. After accidentally discovering Dr. Zoidberg naturally produces multicolored pearls as a byproduct of sickness and cough, the crew funded the rest of their journey by assembling pearls together and selling them as beads of love to a very demanding music festival audience.

In the Peanuts newspaper comic, Lucy makes a love bead for Schroeder stating he does not like Lucy causing him to react violently, taking the beads back and giving them eventually to Snoopy who appears in the final panel wearing them. Originally appearing in 1968, it was spotted on a reprint of the syndication on September 13, 2015.
